The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners, Growth Management Department, is seeking a Deputy Building Official for their office located in Crestview, Florida. 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Supervises inspectors and plans examiners concerning all commercial and residential projects, and supervises and performs inspections and certifications of new, existing, and altered buildings and structures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction or a related field and supplemented by a minimum of six (6) years’ experience as an architect, engineer, plans examiner, building code inspector, registered certified contractor, or construction superintendent, five (5) years of which were acquired in a supervisory/management capacity. Or, in accordance with F.S. 468.609, ten (10) years combined experience as an architect, engineer, plans examiner, building code inspector, registered or certified contractor, or construction superintendent, with five (5) years in a supervisory position.  Experience in both local government building regulation and as a licensed private general, residential, or building contractor preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Requires state certification as a Building Code Administrator, or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.

Salary:  $63,294 – $88,608 Annually
