 JOB SUMMARY: Highly responsible administrative, planning, and professional work, in directing all activities of the Public Works Department including sanitation, facilities maintenance, streets and drainage, recreation, and coordination between sewer/water subcontractor and the city. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Assistant City Manager.                                                                                                   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Essential Functions: • Develops plans and projects for the Public Works Department such as: short- and longrange goals; capital improvements as well as maintenance update scheduling • Oversees all sewer/water operations including design and planning of all expansion and rehabilitation of the system • Supervises all the divisions of Public Works; plans, assigns and directs the employees through the subordinates • Directs the placement, training, promotions, discipline, and evaluations activities of all Public Works employees • Prepares reports for City Councilmembers • Makes request for approval for funding and resolutions from City Council • Reviews engineering and other technical functions with City’s contract engineers • Analyzes the budget and makes adjustments and prepares recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year • May inspect work done for the City by outside construction companies • Prepares specifications for bid work and selection • Meets with citizens and answers and investigates public works complaints • Attends various meetings and workshops                                                                

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages all the divisions of Public Works. The Capital Project Manager, Executive Assistant, and the Superintendent of Field Operation report directly to the Public Works Director.     

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Construction, Public Administration, or related field • Master’s Degree in related field preferred • Two (2) years experience in public works and 2 years of supervisory experience • Five (5) years of

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS: • Valid Florida Operator’s Drivers License • Professional Engineer preferred 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of all phases of public works, facilities maintenance, parks, sanitation, streets and drainage and sewer/water • Knowledge of the equipment, tools and supplies required to accomplish all operations • Ability to supervise a large number of employees through divisional supervisors. Ability to create a positive image to the public relative to public works programs • Ability to lead and motivate a small department. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing • Ability to analyze financial data and discern underlying management problems • Ability to exercise good judgment in financial management • Skilled in pubic presentations • Skilled in developing, training, directing, motivating employees, and holding them accountable
