2023 National County Government Month: Counties RISE!  

National County Government Month (NCGM), held each April, is an annual celebration of county government. Since 1991, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has encouraged counties to actively promote county roles and responsibilities in serving residents. Counties can schedule activities any time during the month.

Electric buses could be coming to Indian River County GoLine transit 

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Within the next five years, the county’s GoLine buses might be driving around a little quieter — and cleaner — than usual.

Brevard commissioners to consider compromise plan for use of hotel tax  

The Brevard County Commission will decide on Tuesday how to resolve controversies involving tourism grants for cultural organizations and events, as well as for projects to help improve the condition of the Indian River Lagoon. Also in the mix: How to adequately fund post-hurricane repairs to beach areas in south Brevard.

County to consider lighting ordinance 

At the February 28, 2023 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting, members directed Attorney Jon Jouben to find out what the County’s limits are on regulating illumination / light pollution. March 6th, Jouben returned with his findings that the County has two mechanisms that can be used.

Sen. Blaise Ingoglia’s solid waste management bill (SB 798), and its companion bill (HB 975) sponsored by Rep. Jeff Holcomb, would prohibit local governments from entering into exclusive solid waste franchise agreements and restrict them from providing their own solid waste services. Current contracts and franchises in place as of January 2023 would be permitted to continue to their date of expiration.
