About the Position

In this role, you will oversee critical functions that keep the Fire Department running efficiently and effectively. From guiding and developing staff to managing finances, personnel services, and key administrative processes, you’ll play a central role in supporting both daily operations and long-term priorities. Employee Administration:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff, fostering team cohesion and professional growth.
  • Oversee performance management, including coaching, career development, and succession planning.
  • Ensure consistent application of labor contracts, policies, and employee relations guidance.
  • Participate in contract negotiations, grievance resolution, and disciplinary processes to support a positive workplace.

Fire Finance:

  • Lead and manage the Finance Division, including supervision of personnel and fiscal accountability.
  • Support annual strategic and business planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Develop and monitor performance measures while identifying operational efficiencies and improvements.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to align financial strategies with organizational priorities.

Personnel Services:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to administrative staff.
  • Oversee payroll (Telestaff and Workday) and personnel-related processes for the department.
  • Develop and manage administrative plans that support fire administration and customer service.
  • Serve as liaison with County departments on personnel and administrative matters.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-time, 40+ hours per week.
  • Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Public Administration, or related field with six (6) years of progressively responsible related experience.
  • OR: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting, MBA, MPA, or related field with four (4) or more years of related experience.
  • Four (4) or more years of supervisory/management experience required.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

  • Leadership experience at the Manager II level (or equivalent), with proven success in financial and operational oversight.
  • Advanced professional certification (CPA, CGFO, or similar) preferred.
  • Expertise in governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting (GAAFR), and utility finance, including acquisitions, bond and rate structures, and budget management (operating and CIP).
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills, with knowledge of performance measurement concepts to support business planning.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $90,000.00 – $101,000.00
