With some consternation, the Brevard Board of County Commissioners passed the county’s $2.04 billion annual budget Tuesday night, but not without bipartisan pushback on the county’s earlier decision to discontinue paying for sample ballots and postage for mail-in ballots ahead of elections.

Sumter Co. Commissioners raise fire assessment fee by $1  

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — On Tuesday, the Sumter County Board of Commissioners raised the fire assessment fee by one dollar, going from $124 to $125 per improved parcel per year. The dollar increase gives the department an extra $400,000 to work with. This comes after commissioners rejected a substantial increase in the fee assessment last month.

Alachua County Commission votes to ask federal government for Inflation Reduction Act funds 

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – During commissioner comment at the end of today’s Alachua County Commission Special Meeting, commissioners voted unanimously to send letters asking that federal Inflation Reduction Act funds be sent directly to counties in Florida since the State has rejected the funds. 



Brevard County considers how to cover cost of lifeguards  


An increase in drownings earlier this year prompted Brevard County to extend beach safety by adding more lifeguards. Now, county leaders are telling beach cities they must pay their fair share to protect the beaches.
