Public Works Director- City of DeLand, Florida
The historic City of DeLand is situated in central Florida along Interstate 4 between the cities of Daytona Beach and Orlando. As the seat of Volusia County, DeLand covers 19.09 square miles and is surrounded by 150 lakes, the St. Johns River, and beautiful state and local parks. The City of DeLand seeks a confident and dedicated leader of high integrity who is passionate about public service to be their next Public Works Director. The Public Works Department consists of approximately 52 employees operating with a total budget of roughly $9.5 million. The Public Works Director oversees six divisions and the management of the City’s privatized solid waste, yard waste, and recycling contract.
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or related field is required coupled with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public works management or a closely related field. Emergency Management/FEMA reimbursement experience is a plus and Florida Professional Engineer or Certified Public Manager (CPM) credential is highly desirable.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license within a reasonable period following appointment, coupled with maintaining an acceptable driving record is required.
