Putnam County Board of County Commissioners, Palatka, Florida has an excellent opportunity available for a County Attorney. This is a highly responsible management position that performs under administrative direction from the County Administrator. Duties include skilled legal work for the County Commission, County Administration, County Departments (including ancillary Boards), the Port Authority, the Solid Waste District, the Canvassing Board, the Planning Commission, the Zoning Board, and the Contractor’s Licensing Board. Represents the County Commission in legal matters, including the bringing and defending of suits. Attends Board of County Commissioners’ meetings, Planning Commission meetings, Zoning Board meetings, and Contractor Licensing Board meetings and renders legal assistance, opinions, and advice as requested. Prepares proposed legislation, contracts, ordinances and resolutions, and makes recommendations with regard to amendment, revision and repeal of existing laws. Knowledge of laws of Florida affecting County government. Knowledge of real estate law. Ability to interpret language of grants and loans, including those from State and Federal agencies. Drafts and presents legislative bills to delegations for consideration.
Graduation from an accredited law school with a law degree. Seven years of experience, preferably in County or other local government, as a practicing attorney with experience in legal research, administrative/governmental law, trial work, personnel issues and contract matters. Must be licensed by the State of Florida and a member of the Florida bar. Ability to be admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida within nine months of date of hire. Putnam County residency or establishment of residency within six months of date of hire. Excellent benefits including Florida State Retirement System.
