Indian River County (population 159,788) is located on the Florida east coast, referred to as the “Treasure Coast”, approximately 135 miles north of Miami, 190 miles south of Jacksonville, and 135 miles east of St. Petersburg. The County provides water, wastewater, and reuse services to a major portion of the County’s population, including the City of Sebastian. The remaining residents are serviced by private wells and septic tanks, the City of Vero Beach Utilities, or the City of Fellsmere Utilities.
Under the direction of the Director of Utility Services, The Water – Wastewater Operations Manager provides management for the Indian River County Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant operations, Reuse Distribution System, Wastewater Collection System, and Water Distribution System to include all potable water distribution infrastructure, hydrants, sewer system collection pipes, manholes, gravity sewer lines, lift stations, force mains, and related infrastructure. Directs operations and maintenance by delegating authority through additional supervisory personnel, and compliance with local, state, and federal permits and regulations. Direct reports include Wastewater Treatment Plant Chief Operator, Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, Asset Operations Manager, and an Environmental Compliance Manager. The Utility Services Division includes approximately 100 FTE’s.
Indian River County seeks a decisive, hands-on Water – Wastewater Operations Manager who is passionate about public service and displays a proactive and collaborative management style. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field supplemented by a minimum of ten (10) years directly related progressively responsible experience relating to the operation, maintenance and repair of Water/Wastewater Treatment Plants, water distribution, reuse, and wastewater collection systems demonstrating effective management of the system, personnel, and projects. A combination of education and directly related experience may be considered. A minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience is required. Additionally, candidates must possess and maintain at a minimum Class A Water or Wastewater license, with dual certification preferred and have the ability to obtain/possess a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
The annual salary range for this position is $73,400 – $110,115 depending on qualifications and experience coupled with a compliment of benefits and professional development opportunities. Residency within Indian River County is desired, but not required.
