Fort Myers Beach spans seven miles on the southwest coast of Florida on Estero Island and is known for its old Florida feel, beautiful white sand beaches, gorgeous sunsets, and great outdoor restaurants. The Town supports a community of about 6,000 full-time residents, 60,000 seasonal residents  in the fall and winter months, and 1 million annual visitors.

Established in 1995, the Town operates under an adopted charter and exercises municipal home rule powers under the Constitution and laws of the State of Florida. The legislative council consists of five council members serving a four-year term. Town Council members choose the mayor each year by majority vote.

The Town Council is seeking a highly successful, experienced leader with multiple skillsets as a public sector manager.  A track record of success in intergovernmental relations will be important as the Town frequently interacts with Lee County and other nearby local governments as well as state and federal agencies. The desired candidate will have experience in a coastal and/or resort community, disaster management, and public/private partnerships as well as strong and proven skills in communication, management and finance. Strongly desired is for the candidate to  possess the leader style that maintains strong rapport with the town’s citizenry and staff members, building harmonious and trustworthy relationships.

Recently devastated by the impact of Hurricane Ian, Fort Myers Beach is now facing major restoration enterprises to clean up and revitalize it back to its renowned state so that its residents and many annual visitors may continue to enjoy the beaches beauty, public services and amenities.  The chosen individual will need expert and experienced leadership to face this challenge and successfully prevail in these endeavors.
