  • TITLE Fleet and Transit Manager - 2022 CATEGORY Fleet and Transit Services DESCRIPTION GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible, supervisory, and highly skilled technical position involved in the Fleet Services program and Transit Operations. Responsible for coordinating all activities pertaining to the Fleet Services Vehicle facility, including the specification of vehicles and equipment, management of contracts, supervision of staff, and repairing various types of vehicles. Reports to the Public Works Director. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Supervises the work of skilled and semi-skilled personnel engaged in maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, light-duty trucks, emergency equipment, turf equipment, generators, trailers, and road construction equipment. This involves instructing, assigning, and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, budget preparation, monitoring, and allocating personnel. Manages the Sumter County Transit Program, including the maintenance of the Transit Fleet, managing the contract with the Transit provider, and managing all grants pertaining to the Transit Program. Maintains positive and quality customer services interactions. Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for all fleet vehicles and equipment. Manages contracts for the Fleet Maintenance Program and contracts as assigned. Ensures quality assurance and performance measures are met. Makes recommendations for the need for contracted services. Confers with customers regarding their maintenance needs and concerns. Addresses all warranty issues, coordinates all vehicle safety recalls with the customer and manufacturer. Analyze data trends from software systems to optimize efficiency and enhance customer service while controlling expenditures. Prepare detailed reports to analyze equipment and determine the most cost-effective equipment to select and implement "best practices" for maintenance by providing in-depth cost analysis and budget preparation for fleet maintenance and the transit program. Maintains records and reports of work accomplished. Prepares and processes reports on completed work. Invoices division for maintenance work performed. In case of an emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.), the position must respond/perform recovery duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor. Employees hired on or after February 1, 2016, must be a tobacco-free person, both on and off the job, for at least one (1) year immediately preceding application and maintain the same tobacco-free status throughout the term of employment. Face tattoos (from ear to ear and hairline of the forehead to the bottom of the chin) are prohibited. Maintains regular physical attendance during normal work hours as assigned at one of the county's offices or work facilities with the ability to work evenings, nights, and holidays as required. Employees will be required to perform other job-related marginal duties as required.] POSITION REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of construction, assembly, adjustment, and maintenance of a wide variety of auto, light trucks, emergency vehicles, maintenance, and construction equipment Knowledge of all types of mechanic's shop tools Skill in applying methods and techniques in the use of automotive or diesel repairs Skill in the use of computers and computer software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel programs Ability to follow verbal and written directions Ability to communicate orally and in writing Ability to analyze a dataset and develop a program or adjust programmed activities in response to data sets Ability to work independently with minimum supervision Ability to operate a computer EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or a closely related field Five (5) years of mechanical experience in the automotive/truck repair field Three (3) years of supervisory experience LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Valid Florida Driver's License of the correct class for the vehicle driven, and a driving record acceptable to the insurance provider Must possess or obtain the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications within six (6) months of employment. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Acceptable vision (with or without correction) Acceptable hearing (with or without correction) Heavy lifting and carrying (over 45 pounds) Reaching Climbing Pulling Pushing Walking Standing Crawling Kneeling Bending Balancing Stooping Vehicle and equipment operation to test repairs VACCINATIONS: Hepatitis A within sixty (60) days of employment Hepatitis B within sixty (60) days of employment Tetanus within sixty (60) days of employment ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Works inside Works outside in noise, dust, fumes, grease or oils, electrical energy, adverse weather conditions Slippery surfaces With moving objects or vehicles Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability FLSA Exempt Status Revised 10/26/2022 FULL-TIME/PART-TIME Full-Time SALARY RANGE $21.12 - $30.20 Commensurate with licenses and experience.
