Do you have senior leadership experience with a focus on facilities and fleet services? Join the Sarasota County team in this critical role to ensure management of the daily operations of the Facilities Division and Fleet Services Division. Serve in the key capacity to update County leadership to critical infrastructure impacts and serve as the backup to the General Services Department Director.

Job Description:

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the Facilities & Fleet Divisions.  Develop, implement, and monitor capital and operating budgets and relevant policies, programs, practices, and procedures.  Drive implementation of strategic plans and monitors progress towards the achievement of goals and objectives through identification and reporting on relevant performance metrics, success indicators, and project milestones.  Supervise, empower, and develop managers and staff.  Responsible for succession planning, continuity of operations planning, human resources activities, staff performance, and disciplinary action.
  • In conjunction with the Department Director, responsible for oversight of all phases of facilities life cycle management for County-owned and operated facilities with emphasis on life cycle costing and asset optimization.  Responsible for long-range master planning, short-range operational planning and space utilization, and renovation design and construction planning.  Implements and monitors standards and metrics. 
  • In conjunction with Department Director, responsible for oversight of all phases of fleet life cycle management for County-owned and operated fleet equipment and machinery, acquisition and disposal, and replacement analyses.  Monitor billing rates to ensure respective internal service funds are whole.  Ensure technicians maintain training/certification.  Implement and monitor standards and metrics. 
  • Oversees the procurement/contract activity in the Divisions, ensuring compliance with County procurement policies.  Look for appropriate efficiencies.  Escalate concerns to Department Director.  Oversee development of bids and RFPs.  Participate in contract negotiations and holds personnel accountable for contract management and proper oversight.
  • Represent the Division and, when required, the Department in emergency operations.

 About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Public Administration, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Planning or related field AND eight (8) years of progressively responsible related experience 
  • OR Master’s Degree in above areas AND six (6) or more years of related experience.
  • Four (4) or more years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license, or ability to obtain by start date. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous government and emergency response/management.
  • Experience with Fleet and Facilities, development review and related functions. 
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement activities. 

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $95,014.40 – $112,008.00

Position Salary Range: $85,051.20 – $145,059.20
