CITY OF INVERNESS

 The City of Inverness is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Public Works Director.  Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Public Works Director performs professional work in management of operations, maintenance, and project development associated with roads, water, sewer, and other infrastructure.

The preferred candidate must be motivated, experienced, have outstanding communication skills and be a proactive individual who will not just focus on the day-to-day but who will look out to the future and assist the City in planning for a better tomorrow.

The preferred candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, and five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal or private sector public works type functions.

The preferred candidate must be able to:

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and supervise work activities of skilled and semi-skilled personnel.  Direct work activities of supervisors and general workforce as warranted.
  • Monitor and maintain legal and permitting requirements as assigned or necessitated.  Plan and allocate resources; monitor and coordinate activities.
  • Evaluate personnel, initiate hiring, firing, promotion, discipline, and training.  Maintain required personnel records, reports, and files.  Generate docu-mentation as needed for effectiveness.
  • Formulate and implement practices, rules, techniques, policies, and procedures to improve operational efficiencies.  Maintain adherence to city policy, procedures, and protocol.  Exercise and implement cost effective decisions, practices, and principles.
  • Prepare the annual budget; provide time, motion, material, and performance/

project analysis and costing.  Exercise purchase authorization over depart-mental allocations and expenditures.  Submit requisitions for personnel, equipment, and materials.
