Suwannee County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants for

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

This full-time skilled technical position processes code enforcement cases for violations of Suwannee County Land Development Regulations, County Ordinances, FL Building Code, and State statutes from initial complaint or observation through case closures, which requires proper research, preparation, communication, and recordation. This position requires daily interaction with the Public and working closely with the Code Enforcement TEAM, Land Development Director, Building Official, Health Department, other County Departments, State and Local Agencies, and the County Attorney. The Officer is integral to the County’s overall development, property maintenance, and integrity. Under limited supervision, the Officer interprets and enforces the County’s Ordinances by issuing appropriate notices or citations to those in violation while performing proactive and reactive investigations of residential property, AG /vacant land, and commercial properties. Violations are documented in writing and through photographs and entered in the Cloudpermit system. Officers must always maintain physical and electronic records of violations and inspections. Officers must be capable of presenting cases before the Code Enforcement Special Magistrate at a quasi-judicial hearing. Officer responds to complaints from the Public, other agencies, and contractors, providing technical/professional information and reasonable assistance in pursuing voluntary compliance.

Only experienced applicants will be considered. Additional qualifications include graduation from a standard high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and three years of experience in work involving public contact, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, knowledge of the geography of the county, some knowledge of law enforcement methods and procedures, level of acceptable (with or without correction) eyesight and hearing and must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. The ability to obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Level I Certification within six (6) months after the probation period ends is required. Possession of FACE Level I Certification is preferred. The minimum rate of pay is $18.50 per hour based on qualifications and experience plus a generous benefits package.
