Road & Bridge Maintenance Manager


$2,722.27 to $3,266.72 biweekly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Government Center/Viera. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Performs skilled administrative work in the planning, organization, coordination, and direction of all activities related to the maintenance of Brevard County’s right-of-way and transportation infrastructure, which includes technical and supervisory duties. This classification is responsible for managing the operation of the Road & Bridge Maintenance Division, which consists of regional offices throughout Brevard County. Work involves preparing and administering operating and capital improvement budgets, contracts, and agreements; developing short and long-range plans; conducting analysis to ensure economical and efficient use of resources; implementing workforce development and performance management initiatives; working with project engineers to develop scope of services for maintenance projects; preparing specifications for bid proposals, contracts, and agreements; assisting with employee hiring, training, discipline, and performance evaluations; responding to citizen complaints, and employee grievances and other personnel actions; and may be required to act as the Road & Bridge Program Manager in his/her absence and as authorized. Supervision is provided to clerical and technical staff and subordinate supervisors.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field PLUS eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in roadway construction and maintenance or directly related to public works activities, which includes four (4) years in a supervisory capacity. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver’s license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain with nine (9) months of employment, an active Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must possess, or successfully complete within eighteen (18) months of employment, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) ICS-100, ICS-200, G-300, G-400, ICS-700, and ICS-800 certification training. Must be able to work irregular hours and respond to emergency situations at night and on weekends and holidays, as necessary. Work is primarily performed indoors in an office environment but requires some outdoor work performing field inspections and investigations which may involve exposure to heavy equipment, dust, fumes, noise, moving machinery and traffic, insects, and extreme weather condition. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
