The Florida Association of Counties is pleased to offer an educational workshop designed specifically for newly elected commissioners. Mark your calendars for the New Commissioners Workshop on January 14-15, 2015 in Alachua County at the Hilton University of Florida. This in-depth, 1½ day workshop will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14 and end with a reception at 5:00 pm on the evening of Thursday, January 15. Participants will gain an understanding of a wide range of topics that are important for the job including:
- Role and Authority of a County Commissioner
- Ethics and Sunshine Laws
- How to Run A Successful Meeting
- Work Effectively with County Staff
- Media Training
- Effective Leading and Governing
The New Commissioner Workshop provides 6 hours of core credits towards the County Commissioners’ Certification Program. Newly elected Commissioners will not want to miss this New Commissioner’s Workshop. Register today by clicking here for the online portal. Registration for this workshop is $150 which includes all workshop materials, breaks, two receptions, breakfast and lunch on Thursday. There are five Small County Scholarships available (limited to counties with populations under 75,000; only 1 scholarship will be allocated per county on a first come, first served basis.).
