The Agency for Health Care Administration announced on October 23 the recipients of $35 million in grant awards, available through the Low Income Pool program and appropriated by the Legislature last session, for new and existing primary care programs.
Part of an initiative spearheaded by former Senate President Haridopolos in 2010, the funds are intended to enhance health care quality and access for low income and under- or uninsured individuals. Factors taken into account in distributing the awards include the ability of the particular project to improve health outcomes, reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and hospitalizations, reduce per capita costs, and address overall community health issues and needs.
Award recipients include hospitals, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), and several county health department clinics throughout the state. Click here for a list of awardees.
