Many of our members have asked for a program for county staff to attend to get their County Government Education. The wait is now over! The first three classes were held in conjunction with Legislative Day last week in Leon County. If you were unable to join us for these three events last week, don’t worry. We will be offering Ethics in June and November as well as again in March and June of next year, and Growth Management and Financial Management will both be offered again next March, so you have plenty of time to get those core credits and still be a part of the first class to be recognized in June of 2018 as successfully completing the County Government Education Program.
The next education opportunities will be at FAC’s Annual Conference in June in Palm Beach County. Ethics will be offered on June 27, 2017 (there is a $75 registration fee for this workshop). Two elective workshops will be offered during the Annual Conference and are included in the conference registration fee. Elective topics will be announced soon. Registration for the Annual Conference will open next week.
The County Government Education Program requires county staff to attend 45 hours of coursework to graduate from this program. Those 45 hours of coursework are broken down into three types of credits – Core (30 hours required); Elective (9 hours), and Continuing Education (6 hours). Our workshops are generally offered in conjunction with FAC Conferences and typically take 18 months to complete. There is no timeline to complete your coursework. All credits are tracked at FAC and you have access to your transcripts through the FAC portal.
