Special Session Update
Legislature to Cut Current Year Budget by $1 Billion
The House and Senate convened this week in an effort to trim the current year budget by nearly $1 billion. Leadership has agreed on a plan of cutting $800 million and shifting another $150 - $200 million in trust funds to balance the books. At present, both Chambers have resisted making significant cost shifts to counties. FAC staff worked diligently to protect the allocations of doc stamps for water related programs, similar changes in the area of invasive aquatic plant control and local government's contribution to the collection of state and local revenues with the Department of Revenue. In addition, funding for FAC SCTAS program was preserved as well. Both Houses will approved the budgets and will take the final vote on Friday.
