Department of Revenue releases county by county millage rates
DOR has released a list of counties preliminarily indicating that they may exceed the millage cap as reflected in the millage set for TRIM notices, according to DOR.
Three counties have indicated that they may exceed the maximum millage by a two-thirds vote by going to the rolled back rate (which means not subtracting the bracket percentage assigned by HB 1B): Gulf, Monroe and Seminole.
Seven (up from six yesterday) counties have indicated by a unanimous vote they may exceed the maximum millage by going to the 2006-07 millage rate: Bradford, Calhoun, Gilchrist, Holmes, Jefferson, Lee and Martin.
For your information, Gulf County's table value declined this year from the 2006-07 roll. This puts them in the weird circumstance in that the rolled back rate which requires a two thirds vote generates more than the millage set last year, which requires a unanimous vote. I doubt that the legislature considered that when it imposed the super-majority requirements. It just goes to show (you know what's coming): ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL.
DOR says a complete list will be available in the middle of next week. For the preliminary list, click here [XLS].
