Medicaid Substance Abuse County Match Program Approved by CMS!

County governments working with their substance abuse providers could bring up to $22 million in new federal funds to Florida, under the Medicaid county match program authorized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid his week. This projection is based on the commitment forms which a number of counties submitted to the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) during program planning last year. Florida Association of Counties' staff has worked with the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration and the Agency for Health Care Administration for two years to implement this program.

Any county may participate by allocating local, unmatched money to one of three substance abuse services to Medicaid recipients. These services include: Intervention, Peer Recovery Support and aftercare. Participating counties and their designated provider networks or agencies will be able to bill these codes fee for service indefinitely, since AHCA will not have the authority to add the funds to capitated managed care contracts.

The Florida Association of Counties and the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association will sponsor statewide training for counties and agencies beginning next month in Tallahassee, Tampa, and Ft. Lauderdale. Look for details in the next couple of weeks. Billing for these serves will begin this fiscal year. For more detailed information, please click here.
