Bio: John Wayne Smith

John or John Wayne lives in Tallahassee with his wife Elise, and their four children; Carter, Cale, Montgomery, and Camille.


John is a graduate of Florida State University.  He has Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Political Science.

John has worked over twenty years in the role of lobbyist and researcher for local governments.  Most of his attention has been concentrated in the areas of public finance; state and local tax policy, state appropriations, transportation and economic development.

 

For eight years, John served as the Assistant Director of Legislative & Public Affairs for the Florida League of Cities and was responsible for the coordination of the League’s overall legislative agenda.  John worked on several of the League’s priority issues, which included the new Communications Services Tax, Municipal Revenue Sharing and annexation reform.  For the 2007 Legislative Session, John was the point person for the League on property tax reform.
John rejoined the Florida Association of Counties in August 2007 as its Legislative Director. In this capacity, John manages the lobbying operation of the Association before the Legislature and state agencies, and serves as the liaison with Congress and federal agencies.
