Energy Independence
FAC has devoted a significant amount of time to educating our members on this issue and drafting a policy statement that considers the diverse interests of all of Florida’s counties. We are keeping track of local resolutions and letters on this issue, and will be posting them here as we receive them.
The FAC Energy Independence Workgroup is a group of County Commissioners appointed by the President to advise the Growth, Environmental Planning, and Agriculture Policy Committee on energy policy. The group is very active and has had several meetings this year to develop the Association's position on offshore oil drilling and other renewable energy sources. "Jobs in Florida" Bill
On Wednesday, February 3, 2010 the Senate Select Committee on Florida’s Economy released and presented draft legislation entitled the “Jobs in Florida” bill during its committee meeting held at 8:00 a.m. The draft legislation is presented as a compilation of ideas and concepts strategically designed to stimulate the state’s economy by influencing a positive atmosphere to induce the private sector into creating more employment opportunities for Floridians. Numeric Nutrient Criteria
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a numeric nutrient criteria rule for Florida as the result of litigation brought by environmental groups. While FAC recognizes the need for science-based numeric nutrient criteria, this rule is being developed under severe time constraints. It is unlikely that criteria can be developed in such a short timeframe in a scientific way, and in a way that properly balances economic concerns with environmental concerns.
