Aging

Local governments have a variety of social programs created to care for our older adult population. In addition to these local long-term care options, Florida’s counties are required to pay a portion of the state's share for Medicaid nursing home costs. Currently, counties pay $55 per patient per month for residents of their county who reside in nursing homes.

Nursing Homes

The Medicaid nursing home program provides 24-hour-a-day nursing services to eligible clients who require institutional care as ordered by a doctor. The program is funded through federal and state participation, with counties contributing to the state's share of the cost for nursing facility services.

Long-Term Care Medicaid Reform (Florida Senior Care)

Florida Senior Care is an integrated managed care pilot program for Medicaid participants age 60 and older who reside in the Florida Panhandle and Central Florida regions. The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has been working in cooperation with the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) to develop this program, which was authorized by the 2005 Florida Legislature.
