Funding Level: $61,000,000
Overview: The Superfund program was set up to locate, investigate and clean up the highest-priority sites contaminated with hazardous waste. EPA directly administers the program in cooperation with states and tribal governments. EPA principally uses a hazard ranking system to evaluate sites and place them on the National Priorities List (NPL). Only sites on the NPL in Florida can be considered for these funds. The selection of sites will be made by an EPA expert panel in mid-March; Florida has no input in the selection process.
