    NACo brings five coastal states together to discuss oil spill response

    FAC, counties meet with DJJ to discuss cost sharing

    Department of Juvenile Justice’s Certification Task Force On Monday, July 19, FAC, Commissioner Kevin Beckner, county staff and members from Sheriff’s offices throughout the state convened at the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Headquarters in Tallahassee.  The Task Force was created out of the need to find alternative ways for counties to participate in their share of juvenile detention.  Statute requires counties to pay into the state operated detention facilities; however, there is also a section of statute that says counties and municipalities can operate their own facilities that have been certified by the Department.     Legislature holds two hour Special Session, then adjourns

    Cretul establishes 6 working groups re oil spill response
    On Tuesday, July 20, 2010 the Florida Legislature convened in a special session at the call of the Governor to consider placing a constitutional amendment to ban oil drilling on the November ballot.  The House convened for 50 minutes in which Speaker Larry Cretul announced the formation of six working groups to discuss the varying aspects to oil spill recovery for the state of Florida.
