Friday, July 23, 2010 FAC Leaders Lieberman, Williams and Holley express Florida’s varied concerns

NACo President Valerie Brown (California) convened a special roundtable meeting on Monday, July 19 of the NACo Executive Board and the five impacted states (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas).  Attendees were provided briefings from Lisa Jackson, Administrator EPA and Tom Oppel, Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy.  Upon concluding the meeting the NACo Executive Board agreed to establish an internal workgroup to assist in the coordination and policy development of federal issues.  An organizational meeting of the workgroup was held later on Monday and the Executive Directors from the five states agreed to draft an agenda including short, medium and long terms goals for the workgroup.  A second organizational meeting is being planned by conference call on Tuesday, July 27th.
