Rep. Hager and Sen. Clemens have again filed bills that attempt to address the issue of unregulated sober homes, which are become increasingly problematic in many areas of the state.  HB 21 and SB 326 create a voluntary certification program for sober homes, which by definition are not actual treatment facilities, but rather provide sober living environments for individuals struggling with addiction.  Specifically, the bills would direct the Department of Children and Families to approve one or more third-party credentialing entities to develop and administer a voluntary certification program.  Additionally, background checks would be required for employees, among other provisions.  FAC supports the efforts of both Rep. Hager and Sen. Clemens, and looks forward to working with the sponsors as the bills begin to move.  For more information, contact Susan Harbin.
