This week, the Governor and Cabinet unanimously approved the purchase of lands in Charlotte and Collier Counties in an effort to improve water quality and wildlife habitat in southwest Florida.   The projects include $3.15 million to acquire approximately 670 acres in Charlotte County to help restore water flow through to the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserve, and $9.77 million for approximately 620 acres in Collier County that will help to buffer the 13,000-acre Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and the Bird Rookery Swamp.
