FAC held its Legislative Conference last week November 19-21, 2014, in Hillsborough County, where elected officials and county staff from across the state met to adopt policy positions for the 2015 Legislative Session and select its top priorities.  In addition to policy committee meetings, counties heard from Interim Secretary Department of Children and Families, Mike Carroll, who spoke during the luncheon regarding the need for better collaboration between local communities, providers and the Department to ensure necessary services and programs are in place for our chronically homeless and other vulnerable Floridians.  Also in attendance at the lunch, were FAC’s William “Doc” Myers Lifetime Advocate Award recipient, Senator Jack Latvala, and 2014 FAC County Champion Award recipient Senate Minority Leader Arthenia Joyner.  Members also heard from Ryan Houck, Consensus Communications, who broke-down the 2014 election results in entertaining fashion and extraordinary detail.

Each policy committee and caucus was charged with selecting its top priorities for 2015.  Those priorities were then presented to the Legislative Executive Committee who ultimately voted on FAC’ s top priorities for 2015.  The Conference concluded with the full membership adopting the priorities and program for 2015.  FAC’s top 2015 priorities, in no particular order, are:

* Tax Reform (CST, Commercial Leases, Recapture Provision, Local Discretionary Revenue Flexibility)

* Economic Development (Enterprise Zones, Film & Tax Incentives)

* DJJ Cost Share

* Medicaid County Cost Cap

* Amendment 1 Implementation (Including PILT)
