This week more than 200 commissioners and staff came to Tallahassee to lobby in support of home rule and against unfunded mandates.

The event started with a reception on Wednesday evening. Governor Scott attended the reception for the 3rd year in a row where he presented Lee, Collier and Palm Beach counties with awards for their efforts in promoting job growth in their counties.

The legislative briefing kicked off on Thursday morning with Speaker Pro Tempore Marti Coley giving an update on the legislative priorities of House leadership. Following that there was a state agency panel that included state Surgeon General, Dr. John Armstrong, AHCA Secretary Elizabeth Dudek, DCF Secretary David Wilkens and DJJ Deputy Secretary Christy Daly. The panel presented agency priorities and answered questions on state and county relationships.

In addition to these events the Certified County Commissioner program hosted to classes this week.  The Ethics class met on Wednesday and had exceptional attendance with 50 newly elected commissioners participating as well as other commissioner continuing their education.  Financial Management wrapped up the week’s events with more than 40 commissioners in attendance.

We thank our membership for their continued support in the fight for home rule and we would like to thank all of our corporate partners and legislative day sponsors that make the day possible. We look forward to seeing you next year!
